Interior design of a 130 m² apartment for a young family in the “French Quarter” residential complex, featuring a contemporary style with classic elements.

Project from 2017.
Design of a 130 m² apartment in a modern style in the “French Quarter” residential complex with elements of classic style.
The apartment’s layout features a very complex geometry of rooms, which posed a real challenge, even for an experienced designer like Natalia Poplavskaya.
The apartment has virtually no walls or 90-degree angles. The project took a little longer than expected, but the clients were understanding, as the apartment’s non-standard layout proved difficult to design. Most often, we first agree on the floor plan with the clients, and then begin to develop the style and create 3D visualizations. In this case, however, the layout underwent constant minor adjustments until the set of drawings was fully completed, as the clients asked us to take all their needs into account down to the smallest detail; while searching for the right solutions, we tried not to lose sight of functionality. The 3D visualization helped us visualize the future interior of the apartment; sometimes we or the clients realized that something was wrong and looked for the right solution.
Finding the right style also took quite a bit of time, and we ended up moving quite far from where we started. We shifted from a more classic interior to a more modern one, retaining only a few classic elements.
The only things that remained constant throughout the project were the technical specifications for the rooms and our desire to see walnut in the flooring, doors, kitchen cabinets, and other woodwork.
The apartment turned out to be a study in contrasts, yet unified by a single brown-beige color palette.
The designer successfully navigated the apartment’s complex geometry, devised the necessary layout changes, and concealed the “irregularities” of the walls.
Extensive collaboration took place with the clients. The result is a modern, dynamic apartment with a cohesive color scheme that meets the functional and aesthetic requirements of its future residents.
