Project: Cozy 55 m² Classic-Style Apartment for Business Travelers
Interior Design: Natalia Poplavskaya
Year: 2016
Location: Cherkasy

This 55 m² apartment was designed to provide comfortable living for a single person on business trips, with occasional visits from other family members.
We converted the one-room apartment into a two-room apartment. We successfully designated a separate bedroom so that the apartment could accommodate two adults and two children at the same time.
During the design process, we had to take existing furniture into account: a TV cabinet, a living room armchair, a bed, and a dressing table. This dictated a specific color scheme and stylistic approach. As a result of the redesign, we ended up with: a large living room, a functional kitchen, a dining area, a small bedroom, storage spaces, utility areas, and a shower.
Redesigning is always a compromise. And as always, we didn’t limit ourselves to just a few options, each of which had its own pros and cons. We settled on the option that provided enough storage space for both personal and household items.
There are a number of classic design techniques that are particularly well-suited for small city apartments.
The main decorative elements of classic interiors are moldings, ceiling cornices, baseboards, and stucco rosettes. To decorate the walls and ceilings, we used polyurethane products from Orac Décor. For a modern classic look, we chose products without ornamentation so they wouldn’t overwhelm the small spaces.

There are no “loud” colors in classic interiors. Subtle and elegant shades of white, beige, gray, and brown are well-suited to the classic style. Since the rooms are small, we used light tones. The walls are adorned with paintings by Dutch artists.
